About Francois Degueurce Designs
As a student, Francois had worked part time job for his mother in her antique furniture/interior design firm. Francois became very interested and even apprenticed in Dijon with a renowned antique furniture restorer. Building upon those skills, Francois soon had a thriving business in Shreveport, LA, selling and restoring antique furniture.
By 1986, this business had evolved into a company producing custom made furniture, mirrors and accessories distributed through designer showrooms. In 1996, Francois accepted a position with 'John Richard Collection', and consecrated all of his time on designing rather than producing.
A self-taught designer, Francois worked for companies such as 'Fine Art Lamps', 'Kichler' (as senior designer), and 'Corbett' (as VP of design). In 2002 Francois became a freelance designer with clients such as 'Corbett', 'Minka', ' Savoy House', 'Thomas lighting', 'Stylicon', 'Liberty Hardware', etc. in the Continental US, in addition to select Canadian and British clients. Since November 2006, Francois has designed exclusively for Uttermost.

After two generations of furniture manufacturing, Bob and Belle Cooper founded The Uttermost Company in 1975, and it is still 100% owned by the Cooper family. Bob and Belle continue to be involved in the business, but are not active in day-to-day activities. Mac Cooper, President/CEO, Taz Cooper, Exec VP/Sales Manager, and a strong management team operate the business today.
Uttermost has enjoyed steady growth for the past 31 years, and now has approximately 290 employees working in its Rocky Mount, Virginia factories totaling 600,000 square feet. Uttermost also has a factory in China which covers an entire city block. In May ’06, Uttermost will be fully operational out of its state-of-the-art West Coast distribution center. This West Coast facility has been added to increase distribution capacity, provide faster shipping to West Coast Retailers, and reduce freight costs to these Retailers.
