This room divider allows you to actually open and close the shutters so that you can either 1) let the light through or 2) block off for complete privacy. Its not too heavy- I carried it myself up the stairs in my loft no sweat- and it LOOKS GREAT! It looks way more expensive than the price I paid for it. I had been searching the internet for months looking for just the right one and all the ones I was interested in cost about [$]. And this one is way better. I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase. I use it in my bedroom- my loft has enormous privacy-invading windows, so I've got it set up such that it blocks the outside view of me standing in front of my mirror. It looks totally glamorous (and believe me when I say I have high standards)- and I couldn't be happier. If you think there's a better divider out there, there isn't. Trust me- I would have found it!
